Planning a wedding for 1,000 guests or less? Try HyVee Hall

Beth McCutchan with the Iowa Events Center talked to us about the Hy-Vee Hall reception facility.
How many people can Hy-Vee Hall accommodate?
In the banquet rooms in the lower level of Hy-Vee Hall we have hosted up to 300 guests for a wedding reception. In the upper level of Hy-Vee Hall I have hosted a banquet for up to 5,000 guests.
Which of your event centers is the most popular?
My most popular reception venue is the Polk County Convention Complex in the heart of downtown Des Moines, where we have done wedding receptions from 100 guests all the way up to 2,000 guests.
Are there any decorating restrictions?
Our only restriction is no open flame, due to fire code. Other than that we allow our brides to do whatever their hearts desire, after all it’s their special day!
How far in advance should brides book the reception location?
A little over a year out is becoming the trend, especially if you are looking for a May, June, or July date. 2009 is already booking up fast!
Is Hy-Vee the exclusive caterer or is their an approved caterer list?
Our receptions all enjoy the premium catering by the Iowa Events Center’s talented team of chefs and attentive, courteous servers. Ovations, our exclusive caterer, has a wide variety of fine dining options that continuously satisfies all of our bride’s vision of taste, quality, and value.
What do brides like most about Hy-Vee Hall?
Our brides love using any one of our venues because of it’s convenient location for guests and for all the complimentary services they receive. At the Iowa Events Center we are all about customer service! Our aim is to ensure their day is flawless so they are able to be happy and relaxed, allowing them to fully enjoy their big day.
Is anything included complimentary?
Included complimentary with the price of their food and beverage is all the set up and tear down of the reception, tables & chairs, linens, napkins, china, silverware, glassware, an elevated glass mirror with crystal cut candle votives for a centerpiece, as well as an onsite sales manager, event manager, and catering manager to oversee every aspect of their wedding reception. Another great aspect of the Iowa Events Center is that we are tax-free. Because of this, our brides save an additional 6% off of their total costs.

What is your favorite thing about being in the wedding industry?
First and foremost I really enjoy having the opportunity to work with and get to know such wonderful couples. It’s such an exciting time for everyone involved and I love the opportunity to be able to assist my brides and grooms in anyway possible to make their wedding day extra special!
What is the most memorable moment you have seen at a wedding?
The most unforgettable wedding moment at the Iowa Events Center was when the groom and several groomsmen were escorted from our venue in an ambulance due to bad choices made the night before. They spent their evening in the hospital.

If you had 2,000 guests, you would need a moving truck to get all the gifts home.
